What restrictions are there with Crown Tickets?
- Each credit cardholder can only purchase 4 tickets and that person can only purchase tickets once every 6-months. If you have more than 4 people in your party, then another person in your party will need to use his or her credit card to purchase the remaining tickets. During checkout, you must list the names of each person in your party and at the time of arrival each party member must show a valid Government Issued Photo ID (except minors without an ID) that matches the name on their ticket. This is for security reasons and there are no exceptions. Children must be at least 4-feet tall.
How do I download or pick up my Crown Tickets?
- E-Tickets are not available for Crown Tickets. Crown tickets can only be picked up in person at the Will Call window at your designated departure point. At the Will Call window, you must present a valid Photo ID and the credit card used to purchase the tickets.
What does the time on my ticket mean?
- For all tickets, other than Flex Tickets, the time on your ticket is the time that you will be allowed to exit the Reserve Ticket Line and enter the Boarding Queue. While in the Boarding Queue, you will go through the screening facility. After passing through security, you will board the next available ferry. Once on Liberty Island, we ask those with Crown Tickets to proceed directly to the security tent at the base of the Statue of Liberty and pick up a wrist band that indicates you have access to the Crown.
Is it safe to go up to the Crown?
- National Park Service rangers will be on site at all times to assist visitors. Since the Statue is not air conditioned, interior temperatures can be 20 degrees higher than those outside. On hot days, it is suggested that visitors drink water at least 30 minutes prior to the climb; there are no restrooms inside the Statue. The National Park Service recommends that crown visitors have no significant physical or mental conditions that would impair their ability to complete the climb.
Can small children or babies be carried by their parents up to the Crown?
No, all visitors to the Crown must be able to climb the stairs to the Crown on their own and must be at least 4-feet tall.
If you want to see the Crown and you have a small child then one parent/adult could wait with the small child at the top of the Pedestal while the other parent/adult climbs the stairs to the Crown. Please note that there is a line from the Pedestal to the Crown that could take up to an hour. The parent/adult climbing up to the Crown would need a Crown ticket and the other parent/adult would need a Pedestal ticket (or a Crown ticket if he or she was going to go up to the Crown after the other parent/adult returned).
How do I pick up my tickets?
Crown Tickets: Please see the Crown Tickets Section
Reserve with Monument Access Tickets and Reserve Only Tickets: You will receive an email with your E-Tickets attached. If you do not receive the email, then please Click on the green E-Tickets button at the very top right of every page of this website and follow the instructions to download your tickets. If you were not able to download and print off your tickets, then you will have to pick up your tickets at the Will Call window at your designated departure point. In order to retrieve your tickets from the Will Call window, you will need to show the attendant at the Will Call window a valid Photo ID and the credit card used to purchase the tickets.
PLEASE NOTE: The ferry operator at the departure point DOES NOT have scanners that can scan E-Tickets from smart phones and there are no printers that visitors can use to print out the tickets so you must wait in the Will Call line to get your tickets if you do not print off your tickets before going to the departure point.
Flex Tickets: YOU MUST PRINT OFF YOUR FLEX TICKETS PRIOR TO COMING TO THE DEPARTURE POINT. If you fail to print off your tickets before going to the departure point then you will have to purchase new tickets, if they are available, and will not receive a refund for the tickets you already purchased. To print off your tickets beforehand, simply click on the green E-Tickets button at the very top right of every page of this website and follow the instructions to download your tickets.
PLEASE NOTE: The ferry operator at the departure point DOES NOT have scanners that can scan E-Tickets from smart phones and there are no printers that visitors can use to print out the tickets. Unfortunately, if you do not print off your Flex Tickets prior to going to the departure point, you will either have to purchase new tickets or find a Kinkos or Internet Cafe to print off your tickets. Your hotel may also help you in printing your tickets.
Can I Climb the Pedestal?
- Only Monument/Pedestal ticketholders and Crown ticketholders can climb the Pedestal. Reserve Ticketholders and Flex Ticketholders do not have access to the interior to the Statue of Liberty or the Pedestal on which the Statue stands. Reserve Ticketholders and Flex Ticketholders have access to the grounds of Liberty Island.
I just want to visit Liberty Island. Do I have to get off of the ferry at Ellis Island?
- No, you do not have to exit the ferry at Ellis Island. You can just remain on the ferry and exit the ferry at Liberty Island and your departure point. In fact, you don't have to get off of the ferry at all. It is your option. You could just go for the ferry ride. Please note that we do not keep track of which Island you get off at and therefore we charge one flat price. There are no price reductions if you do not get to visit both Islands.
What other activities are available on Liberty Island?

Self Guided Audio Tours: The free narrated audio tours of the Statue of Liberty will help visitors learn about the Statue while walking around Liberty Island. For those visitors with Monument or Crown Reservations, the tour has a component designed to supplement your interior visit. Tours are available in nine languages (English, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Mandarin, Russian, Arabic, and Japanese). How do I get tickets to visit Ellis Island?
All Official Statue of Liberty Tickets also allow access to Ellis Island. In fact, this is the only way to visit Ellis Island. It is not possible to purchase Ellis Island Tickets separately. You do not have to exit the ferry at Liberty Island. You can remain on the ferry at Liberty Island and just see Ellis Island. However, you do not give a price reduction for not going to Liberty Island.

What activities are available on Ellis Island?
Ellis Island Movie: "Island of Hope, Island of Tears" is a 45-minute award winning documentary film which also includes a 15-minute live park ranger introduction. There is no charge for the film. Please read more on our Planning Your Trip page.

American Family Immigration History Center: Enables visitors to explore family immigration to America through the extensive records using an interactive database. The repository has over 22 million passenger records for those arriving in New York between 1892 and 1924.

Self-Guided Audio Tours: Audio tours are a wonderful enhancement to your visit. The self-paced Audio Tours are available for both the Statue of Liberty National Monument and the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. They are available in different languages including Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian and Spanish. A special children's tour features animal characters as guides. Where do the ferries depart from?
Battery Park, New York: There is no street address for Battery Park. For GPS purposes, please use 17 State street, New York, NY.
Liberty State Park, New Jersey: 1 Audrey Zapp Drive, Jersey City, NJ

If I take the ferry from one side, must I return to that same side?
- No, you can return to the other side. For example, if you depart from the New Jersey side, you can return to the New York side. However, once you return to the New York or New Jersey side, you cannot re-board the ferry. In addition, you must depart from the departure point listed on your ticket.
What if I do not receive my E-Tickets?
Crown Tickets: Crown Tickets must be picked up in person. There are no E-Tickets for the Crown. Please see the Crown Tickets Section of the FAQ.
Reserve Tickets With Monument Tickets and Reserve Only Tickets: Please check your spam or junk email folder. If you can't find them, you can always download them from our website by clicking on the green E-Tickets button at the top right of any page on on our website or follow the Quick Links button on the left-hand side. Once you are on the E-Tickets page, please follow the instructions to download your tickets.
If you were unable to download and print your tickets then your last resort is to wait in the Will Call line and pick up your tickets in person. In order to do so, you will need to show a Photo ID and the credit card that was used to purchase the tickets. The credit card holder must be present to pick up the tickets in person.

- Flex Tickets: Flex Ticketholders must download their tickets from our website by clicking on the green E-Tickets button at the top right of any page on on our website or follow the Quick Links button on the left-hand side. Once you are on the E-Tickets page, please follow the instructions to download your tickets.
PLEASE NOTE: The ferry operator does not have the ability to scan tickets on smartphones. You MUST print your tickets off prior to going to the departure point. There are absolutely no exceptions to this rule. If you fail to do so, then you will either have to purchase new tickets OR find the nearest Kinkos or Internet Cafe to print off your tickets. Your hotel will most likely be able to provide this service for you too.
Will my tickets expire?
- Yes, non-Flex tickets are for a specific time and date that is printed on the ticket. If you do not know exactly what time or the date you will be going on the tour then we strongly advise you to purchase Flex Tickets. Flex tickets are good for 180 days from the date listed on the ticket. Flex tickets allow you the luxury of picking the day on your trip when the weather is the most accommodating.
Where is the Will Call Window?
Battery Park, New York Departure Point: The Will Call window is located inside Castle Clinton which is a large round brick building in the heart of the park. You can't miss it and we have included a picture of it in our slideshow on the home page or click here.
- Liberty State Park, New Jersey Departure Point: The Will Call window is located inside the CRRNJ Train Terminal. A picture of it can be found by clicking here.
Do I need to purchase a separate ferry ticket?
- No, all tickets come with the ferry ride to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Liberty Island is the Island on which the Statue of Liberty stands. It is your option to get off the ferry at either of the two islands. You could just go for the Ferry ride or you could chose to just get off at one of the two islands or even get off of the ferry at both Islands. That is entirely up to you. Ferries depart approximately every 15 minutes from each of the islands. Please note that if you depart from Battery Park or Liberty State Park after 2:00 PM then you most likely will not be able to visit both islands due to time constraints.
Children under 4 are free, but do I still need to make a reservation for them?
- No, you may bring children up to 4-years of age and they do not need a ticket to board the ferry. Please note that young children under 4-feet tall will not be allowed on the Crown tour. Please see the Crown Tickets section of this FAQ for more information.
What kind of security do I have to go through?
- Visitors must go through airport-style security at the embarkation point, prior to boarding our vessels. All belongings will pass through an X-ray machine and all visitors will be asked to go through a metal detector. Shoes, coats, jackets and scarves must be removed as part of the screening process. If you have Crown Tickets or a Pedestal/Museum pass, you will have to go through screening a second time, including an air-puffer machine.
Are there restaurants or places to purchase food on the Islands?
- Yes, both Liberty Island and Ellis Island have cafes that offer international and American food. There is seating inside and outside and outside. The terrace at the Ellis Island café overlooks the Immigrant Wall of Honor and Lower Manhattan.
What are the different ticket types?
Please Note: All of the types of tickets below come with a Ferry ride to both Liberty Island and Ellis Island. In addition, all of the tours come with the same level of access to Ellis Island. The only difference in the tickets is the level of access to the interior of the Statue of Liberty and its Pedestal and whether you stand in the Reserve or Flex ticket line at the related departure point. Reserve with Monument/Pedestal: Includes everything that comes with the Reserve Only tickets with additional access to Fort Wood, the Museum in the Base and full access to the Pedestal. Read more.
Crown: Includes everything that comes with the Reserve with Monument/Pedestal Tickets with additional access to the Crown. Read more.
What lines are there?
Will Call Line: The line where you pick up your Non-Flex Tickets if you failed to print them out before going to the departure point. Crown Ticket holders must wait in this line since E-Tickets for Crown Tours are not available for download. The line is extremely short on the New Jersey side, but can take 45 minutes to get through on the New York side on busy days and holidays. If at all possible, print out your tickets beforehand to avoid this line. Flex ticket holders do not have to wait in this line since Flex Tickets are ONLY available by download. The Will Call window WILL NOT have Flex tickets for you to pick up. To find the location of the Will Call window, please see the "Where is the Will Call Window?" question under the General section of this FAQ.
Reserve Ticket Line: All Reserve Ticketholders, including Crown and Pedestal/Monument ticketholders, are required to stand in this line until the time on their ticket passes. Once the time on your ticket comes up, you will be waived into the Boarding Queue/Security Line. We ask that you please get into this line prior to the time listed on your ticket. Once your time comes due, only those ticketholders with a time that is listed on the ticket that matches the current time will be waived into the Boarding Queue/Security Line.
Flex Ticket Line: All Flex Ticketholders are required to stand in this line. Flex Ticketholders will be waived into the Boarding Queue/Security Line after Reserve Ticketholders are waived into the line that have a time on their ticket that is prior to the current time.
For example, if it is currently 10:00 AM and there are 25 people in the Reserve Ticket line with 15 of those 25 people having a 10:00 AM departure time and the other 10 people having a 11:00 AM departure time, then just the 15 individuals with the 10:00 AM departure time will be allowed into the Boarding Queue. After those 15 people enter the Boarding Queue, the Flex ticketholders are allowed to enter the Boarding Queue until 11:00 AM rolls around and then the remaining 10 Reserve Ticketholders are allowed to proceed into the Boarding Queue before any additional Flex Ticketholders are allowed in. On very busy days in the summer and certain holidays, the Flex Ticket line can take 45 minutes to an hour to get through. Please see attached for a diagram of the line system.
Boarding Queue/Security Line: This is the line everyone must enter after waiting in either the Reserve Ticket Line or the Flex Ticket Line. While in this line, you will go through a Security Screening. Once you go through the Security Screening, you will board the next available Ferry to Liberty and Ellis Island.
When do I enter the Flex Ticket Line?
- We ask that you arrive 30-45 minutes prior to the time you would like to enter the Boarding Queue/Security Line. Once you get through the Security Screening, you will board the next available ferry. Please note that the Flex Ticket line approaches one hour during holidays and weekends during the summer when departing from New York. There's rarely much of a line on the New Jersey side. Earlier times in the day (8am-10am) have the shortest lines.
